UPDATE - December 2008
TRAVESSIA is finally open.
UPDATE - MAY 2008
I am now in the process of starting a small winery right in the heart of downtown New Bedford. TRAVESSIA is the name of this urban winery and I hope to open to the public in the Fall of 2008. I write this blog mostly to communicate with those who are interested in my winery project. But I also occasionally blog about my wine-related experiences that don't directly involve the winery. If you want to know more about where I'm coming from... please read on.
IN THE BEGINNING...
I started making wine with my family and neighbors in a small village in the Trás-Os-Montes region of Portugal. I was a kid and just happy to help out during the Vindima (grape harvest).
Fast Forward... Now living in the United States, I remained connected to the world of winemaking thanks to my uncle Octávio who makes wine at home every year. Eventually I become more and more intrigued about winemaking and all things about wine. So I took a dive into the world of wine and winemaking. Over the past few years I've made wine, read a number of winemaking books, taken winemaking courses, listened to wine related podcasts, watched DVDs, read magazines and talked to many people in the wine world. In March of 2007 I was invited by the owners of a local winery to help them in their winemaking activities.
In a very short period of time I've learned that winemaking presents tremendous risks and enormous challenges. It's farming, it's chemistry, it's marketing, it's sales... And I've only scratched the surface. But the world of wine and winemaking is also extremely exciting and rewarding in its own unique way.
In the near future I hope to be able to purchase agricultural land in the Southeastern New England area where I can plant a vineyard. I want to make exciting wines in small quantities and at affordable prices.
Please sign-up to receive update notices from my blog via email. I post a blog entry once a week at most. Signing up only takes a few seconds by using any of the popular blog feed readers or simply via the "Subscribe to Updates" form provided on the right column of this page. This will help me stay in touch with you.
Finally, I'm responsible for what I write here on the blog but in no way is my writing of journalistic level. My thoughts and views of the world (wine and non-wine related) are not written in stone and I'm always open to debate. Yes, you can change my mind, maybe... :-)
Thank You for your visit!

Sounds like a great plan you have there, Marco. If you get your vineyard up-and-running, let me know - I'm a big lover of good wine and I'll happily buy yours!
Thanks for sharing your hopes.
