We finally have our “OPEN” flag up and we hope to have our sign installed by the end of January. The wines are selling well and we have had several people join our wine club even before they’ve had a chance to taste any or our red wines – we are grateful for this. And by the way, our two red wines should be ready for release sometime in the Spring of 2009. So far the most commonly heard sentence at the winery is…
<<I don’t like Chardonnay, but I like this one.>>
Obviously we love to hear this. Between our two Chardonnay wines, it’s interesting to see how everyone has a different preference. Some like the unoaked better, others like the traditionally oak barrel aged better. A proof that everyone has different tastes and that there really is no wrong or right when it comes to personal taste and wine preferences.
We’ve also joined several local organizations. One of the organizations that we’ve joined is AHA. It stands for Art, History and Architecture and it’s a free cultural event which occurs in downtown New Bedford every second Thursday of each month. We are very excited to be participants in AHA. We have joined as a programming partner which means that during each of the monthly AHA events, not only we’ll close much later than usual (9PM instead of 6PM), we’ll actually be offering a free cultural event right at the winery. Patricia Daughton, who is the program coordinator for AHA, suggested that we do some type of educational talk for approximately 30 minutes covering a specific wine topic. She didn't have to twist our arm too much for us to accept the idea. So, every AHA night starting in February, I'll be having a free event at the winery called "The Culture of Wine". We’ll probably not dive deep into any one single subject because time would not allow it, but the goal is to give those who are interested a chance to learn something new about wine in a fun and relaxed way. And again, this is free of charge.
I still have to work out the details, but one idea is to have multiple sessions starting at every hour… 6PM, 7PM, 8PM… so people can stop by the winery whenever it’s convenient to them.
I can come up with a dozen topics myself without much effort, but I really would like to give you the readers of my blog a chance to chime in. Please just leave a comment here or if you prefer send me an email with a question or questions about something that you would like to learn about wine. Don’t be afraid to ask anything. Maybe there’s something about wine that intrigues you and that you which you would understand better. And obviously you are all invited to come… the next AHA is on February 12th.
