It has been a crazy few weeks ever since the Massachusetts ABCC approved Travessia’s winery permit. The goal was to open before the Chirstmas holiday season. The list of items to complete was huge and it seemed an almost impossible task.
But I’m happy to be writing here that if all goes according to the latest plan (the plan changes every day), Travessia will officially open the door this Sunday, December 14. We won’t have a grand opening until sometime in the Spring after we’ve worked out all of the kinks, but we’ll certainly be open from this point on. So you are all invited to come on by to say hello and more importantly finally taste our wine. We are starting with four of our white wines… two Chardonnay and two Vidal Blanc - all 100% Massachusetts. I know… white wine in the middle of what seems to be one of the harshest winters in the past few years!? Well, when did people stop eating salad in the winter? Nothing like a nicely chilled semi-sweet Vidal Blanc when it’s 25F outside… ;-)
Some things had to be left behind in a rush to get the winery open. A major one was the website. There was no chance that we could be opening at this time if I had dedicated any significant amount of time to the website. So, the website will be a January project that I’m very much looking forward to.
I will hopefully get back to a regular blog posting schedule in early January and I have a lot to tell you about. I want to introduce you to some of the people who helped me create Travessia. From my cousin Edson who is going to be running the Tasting Room and Winery Operations, to Patricia McRitchie who helped me with all of the legal paperwork at the Federal and State level (whom I’ve never met in person… got to love email and phone). Many people had their hands in making Travessia a reality.
So… please come visit us. The winery will be open from Noon to 6PM daily. We are at 760 Purchase Street in downtown New Bedford.
P.S. Please tell your family and friends about Travessia. We can use a good word of mouth advertisement campaign.

Marco,
The place looks amazing. Great wines. Can't wait to pop open the bottles we got yesterday.
Good luck with everything, and as always, kick ass.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your nice comments. Opening day was low key... saving the fireworks for the grand opening sometime in a couple of months. But I loved seeing some of my good friends & family. It was also nice to meet new people. Good conversation and decent wine... what else could I ask for on opening day? Thanks again!

First and foremost, best of luck with your business venture. The recipe for success is a little luck, lost of hard work, but most importantly the love of doing it. It's pretty clear you love what you're doing so success will come!
Onto the wine...Mr. Capataz was graceful enough to bring a bottle of Sweet Vidal Blanc to our shared family Christmas dinner. He opened it up and Whoala!, it was emptied by the guests in a heart beat while listening to "Fim!" by Nuno Capataz.
Personally I was surprised to find a maturity to this very young wine - it was its density and elegant sweet palette that made it so. I like to enjoy a nice 20 Year Madeira or Muscatel Roxo once in awhile and this wine felt a bit of this type of maturity. Definitely one I will keep on the shelf!
By the way, the CD was good too. The experience enjoying a nice wine and listening to good music compose, by far, some of life's best moments.
Enjoy

Marco,
Congratulations!!! I wanted to let you know the sweet vidal blanc was a big hit over christmas..... I did learn a lesson though I'm going to have to buy by the case because three bottles just aren't enough when you're sharing with WHINOS'.....
